My Trading Journey

How I Started in Trading

It all began in 2008. I was 22, just graduated from university with a degree in "Finance and Credit". At that time, the global financial crisis was at its peak, and I became fascinated with how financial markets work during such periods.

I deposited my first $500 into a demo account and "earned" $5000 in a month. I thought I had it all figured out. Then I deposited my real $1000 and... lost it all in a week. That was the first and most important lesson: demo trading and real trading are completely different worlds.

In 2010, I started serious cooperation with RoboForex and Alpari. At that time, online trading was just gaining popularity in Russia. I remember being thrilled with my first profitable week that brought me $150 - for a student, that was serious money.

By 2013, I was already trading professionally, but the real turning point came in 2017 when I discovered cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin at $3000 seemed expensive, Ethereum at $200 seemed speculative. But I decided to take the risk, and I wasn't wrong.

Most Expensive Lessons

Losing $12,000 Overnight

2015. I was confident about EUR/USD reversing and put 80% of my deposit into a short position with 1:100 leverage. The market went against me, but I didn't set a stop-loss, thinking it would "turn around any moment."

Lesson: Never trade without a stop-loss. Risk per trade should not exceed 2% of your deposit.

FOMO on Crypto Market

December 2017. Bitcoin reached $20,000, everyone was buying. I entered at the peak with 70% of my capital. A month later, BTC dropped to $10,000. I held on, hoping for a bounce, but sold only at $6,000, suffering huge losses.

Lesson: Don't succumb to FOMO. Buy on dips, sell on rallies. Have an exit plan before entering a position.

My Trading Philosophy

Over 15 years, I've developed several principles that help me preserve capital and earn consistently:

  • Risk Management Comes First

    My maximum risk per trade is 1.5% of my deposit. No matter how confident I am in a trade.

  • Psychology is More Important Than Strategy

    90% of trader failures are due to psychology. I meditate for 20 minutes before starting trading.

  • History Repeats, But Not Literally

    I study historical data but understand that each cycle is unique.
